Since no one replied to my last mail I'll assume it was rejected for too many
Cap's in the subject line.
I've been planning to replace my current Debian box with a roll-your-own
system from LFS. Before wiping everything, though I want to test as much as
posible first.
I've tried building an LFS file system for UML but have run into a little
snag. I can boot the system into maintenance mode by setting the default
runlevel to 1 but it fails to boot into any other run level. I get the
initial X Virtual console but it doesn't seem to be able to connect judging
from the error?

Obviously I've done something wrong but I'm not sure what? When I built the
LFS file system I didn't bother installing lilo, since it's UML or the kernel
since the kernel runs on the host but I think I need to re-build the kernel
properly and get the modules installed in the file system? Some help with
this would be greatly appreciated.
Also, since UML does not have direct hardware access, I'm wondering how I can
test various things before I commit to wiping my current system.
I currently use the Kernels OSS modules for my Crystal sound card but am
interested in trying ALSA instead. Can I test this from UML and if so, how?
Also, my GVX1 card is not currently supported in XFree86 so I plan to try the
XIG Accelerated-X server instead. This poses even more problems since it does
not seem to provide any headers for compiling the rest of my system? This is
another thing I need to test. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated here as
well.
Cheers,
John Gay
