Saying distro x,y or z "has too much fluff" is a very wide misconception
- All distro's give an expert mode or equivalent so you can install only
what you want - and even compile from source if thats your preference.

I dont think its really fair to say slackware is crap though. It has a loyal
following and it may be a bit of an acquired taste, but thats all it
could be accused of...    some people just prefer ultimate control
over distro controlled automation and thats where niche distros 
such as Linux From Scratch and Slackware contrinue to exist.
