[ILUG] aha1520 scsi board

[ILUG] aha1520 scsi board

hi folks,
i've just installed SuSE ver8.0 on my pc & am trying to get an
adaptec aha1510 board to work with it but am having no success. The board
worked ok with SuSE ver 6.6 running an earlier kernel. After much trawling
of the net it seems that the problem is caused by the 2.4.18 kernel used by
SuSE v8.0 & the fact that they use initrd. Someone suggested that i disable
initrd in lilo.conf, i built a new kernel using SuSE source & enabled scsi
support, first as a module & later as part of the kernel with no reference
to initrd in lilo.conf entry for the new kernel. This only made matters
worse, none of the sound modules would load at boot up, though i could load
them manually when the system had booted, but any attempt to load the scsi
modules results in the error "/lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel....aha152x no such
file". I want to avoid buying a new pci card, because by the time i buy the
necessary cable & converter for my old scanner it will cost me a fortune, so
any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks & a happy new year to all,

pat
