I have a Dell server that was running NT, and I'm trying to install
Slackware on it. The server has a RAID controller with 4 disks on it, and
the CD drive is on a separate Adaptec controller.
If I boot off the CD, only the Adaptec drivers are loaded, and I can't see
the RAID array to install anything onto. If I make a boot floppy from the
MegaRaid image on the CD, I can boot up and access the RAID array, but I
can't see the CD drive to install anything from, because the Adaptec
driver isn't loaded.
I tried to copy the vmlinuz file from a similar machine that was setup
some time ago onto the boot floppy, but that didn't work.
I'm sure that there's a fairly straightforward way to make the system load
the MegaRaid drivers, but the documentation seems to assume you know more
than seems reasonable for someone attempting to install Linux for the
first time, and frankly, I don't even know what to search for on Google to
get help on this problem.
