Did it, and only way out was to reset the box. No problem though thanks to 
ReiserFS. 

I consider this bad software design (which it is anyways because you have to 
be root to run cdrecord). 

It even completely hung my box when I tried to set only the speed. If I set 
the speed by gcombust, it works, strangely.

I think that in  the CD writing area, on the Linux side lots of bugs have to 
be stomped on....
