[ILUG] mass conversion to linux / converting the mass

AAAARRRRGH! Four hours of installing later....

Everything was going really well - we were running from PC to PC installing
as fast as we could - Dell Optiplex G1s and GX1s were perfect, then GX110's
gave us nightmares. None would restart after installation. They all give the
same msg regardless of RedHat or Mandrake installation:

localhost login:
press <return> to continue
init: switching to runlevel 3
init: sending processes the term signal

by pressing Alt + F4 (or was it F3?) I saw the colourful Mandrake screen but
locked at where it is "running linuxconf hooks".

Mandrake has kernel 2.4.3-20mdk.
The GX110s have a variety of video cards so it is hard to be specific. I
know that is typical for a newbie.

Any quick fixes? I know that is REALLY typical for a newbie.

Hopefully any reply won't have the word "compile" anywhere. (says he quietly
sobbing....)

However, we're more than half-way there, and a whole lot of computers have
had NT removed today as a result.

Thanks!
