Of course you need to put both cards in to ad-hoc mode (check you drivers)
and there is nothing stopping you connecting up a couple of antenna's via
pigtails to the two cards and pointing them at each other. 
(Not that i've tried it or anything).  
Of course you'll no longer be "wireless" (unless you mount the antenna to
your head).
