You could I suppose do something like:
open(/dev/vcs0);
write("loads of CTRL+PGUP");
while (scrolled) {
	read(); /* This DOES read the current (scrolled) screen */
         grep(); /* or whatever you want to do */
	write("CTRL+PGDN");
}

Details might be a bit more difficult (you may need to compare
screen buffers to see if the CTRL+PG{UP,DOWN} are doing something).
