[ILUG] Wine & DRI & something else.

I tried IE5.5 last night, and it didn't work :( or it that :)
However, I am new to wine, dabbled in the past but not seriously. I grabbed the cvs rpm snapshot from the wine site, but whats this wineX stuff? Is it another product or just a fancy word like DOS.

Anyway, I tried several applications, the first being Midtown Madness - the original one. Surprise surprise, it worked, however only in software rendering (fast though). Then tried Carmageddon 2 (french version) and that bombed out after the choose accelerator screen, complaining that it could not connect to X11 or something. On 2k/XP it refuses to work at all coz its an "nt system"

I tried Quicktime as I can't figure out how to run .mov files otherwise. But it sucked ass, it ran, albeit very badly and then bombed.

OpenGL was "available" with glide - but again it couldn't connect to X11. D3D was greyed out.
Anyone know a quick fix - to set up DRI [in wine] or whatever I need for hardware acceleration?

I tried heroes3 (the windows version) and that worked too (doesn't need hardware acceleration)
Close Combat - the default install bombed - but it needed a patch anyway so I blame bill.

I'll give outlook a go tonight, have to bring a copy home for the test.

p.s.: Oh yeah, I compiled a new kernel -> 2.4.17 and quake3 now runs significantly faster, Wolfenstein goes slower -~> go figure!

pps: Under SUSE 7.3 and sendmail some.version, the setting for DS should be DSmail.indigo.ie and not DSsmtp:mail.indigo.ie
That was why I couldn't send mail externally. Works now as I mailed meself from home.

Hi All,

I have just been playing around with wine for the first time, or at least
the first time with some success, and have a few questions for other people
who might be using it.
Is it possible to get M$ Office 2000 Apps running is a Wine session?
Outlook 2000 is the only app I need to run on Windoze regularly, so being
able to run it in a wine session would make me very happy.
Visio 2000 would be another one I'd be interested in.
It kept on going on about the Windows Installer version when I tried to
install Outlook.

Thanks,
	David.
