[ILUG] Debian telnetd slowness

[ILUG] Debian telnetd slowness

I'm running debian 2.2r4, a newly built machine and when I telnet into it.
It can take up to 5 minutes for the logon prompt to appear. logon locally is
instant but since there is no moniter attached I wouldnt do that very often.
My telnetd version is 0.16.4potato and I conect using various clients,
Windows CMD telnet, windows Keaterm, linux telnet (slackware 8.0) and it is
always the same slowness. I know I have the option of using different login
program but which one? Does anyone have any ideas?
