Yes, I've got that far.

This didn't do it :-(

[snip] I did add in this bit to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/kkb/symbols/gb, which I 
copied to 'ie and then hacked

Did this too - I was feeling very hopeful at this stage. But then, confidence 
is the feeling you have before you understand the situation :-/

Did next to nothing except throw up errors.

Added 'ie' to the rules. I'm on X 3.3.6. Rebooted, running icewm. I don't get 
the euro, but I do get the ¢ (which  in some apps appears as a cent sign) on  
Alt-Gr_Shift_e with scroll lock pressed). I used to have this reliably on the 
Alt-Gr_c, but it's now gone from there.

Alt-Gr_4 gives ? (To me That looks like an 'a' with a ufo over it :)
Alt-Gr_e gives this ' '   NOTHING :-(! with scroll lock & shift I get ¢
(looking like an 'A' with a circumflex)

Thanks very much for trying, which is what I'm doing. BTW, I try to send this 
in kmail using ISO 8859-15 and iso 8859-15 encoding, and it says: "Not all 
characters will fit in the chosen encoding" I get the choice to send anyway, 
or change the encoding (away from ISO 8859-15).
