The Seagate ide ST343xx drives are on 'special processing' lists everywhere.
Mandrake's disk optimization only let them run on Mode 4 (No dma, udma), so
they end up dead slow. Dead right, too - if you set up dma in the kernel, you
keep getting 'DriveReady SeekComplete' errors.
With a Maxtor, 2.5 gig on hda, I got an unusual and strange set of disk
errors here with an optimization program I was crashtesting. It proved to be
a textbook example of 'ringing' where I was working only with hda but hdb was
being fed strange signals. Never imagined it possible, but there you are.
