Ah yes - I remember it well.

Actually, I preferred the MMDF style for storing mails to the standard mbox 
style (a line of ^A's is much better than whatever it is mbox 
uses).     Not that I played much with mbox - not long after I joined 
Medianet fulltime we bought a nice little netapp and started using Maildir 
- - which is a huge improvement on the horrible, nasty, disgusting mbox 
format (imagine dealing with a customer who kept emailing himself 3MB files).
