i did some unscientific tests
(ie repeated three times using a wristwatch)

startup time (cached)
---------------------
mozilla 0.97 7 secs
netscape 4.78 5 secs
opera 6.0TP2 7 secs
galeon 1.0.2 4 secs

time to download and render slashdot.org (via a proxy)
------------------------------------------------------
mozilla 2 secs
netscape 1 sec
opera 1 sec
galeon 2 secs

time to download and render www.amazon.com (via a proxy)
--------------------------------------------------------
mozilla 4 secs
netscape 3 secs
opera 4 secs
galeon 5 secs

So i guess claims that any of these browsers are "much faster"
than any of the others are very subjective. Opera seems to
be the fastest of the browsers that do a decent job of
rendering (ie not netscape). And I can't see any reason to
use galeon over mozilla, unless you prefer the inteface.
