Over the years I've been using Linux, I've managed to
avoid having to configure a dial-in modem but
unfortunately this is no longer the case.
My attempts at getting the chat scripts on the
download section of linux.ie to connect to
Eircom.net's free service weren't successful. I
assume that the "tinet" scripts should still work with
Eircom.net?
Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what might be
wrong?
First of all it only connects at 14400 baud, and then
it seems the login message is garbled, so chat doesn't
pick it up. The mesage is repeated several times
before it hangs up. Here's are lines from the logs:
Jan 23 20:05:11 newhost chat[1496]:

The modem is a US Robotics 56K External and it
connects at 45.2Kbps under (ahem) other operating
systems.
