[ILUG] Install Party in Dublin ?

[ILUG] Install Party in Dublin ?

I dont think install parties are really needed anymore
- most popular linux distributions are as easy to install (and
in some cases much easier) than Windows and other
operating systems.

Gone are the days of being forced straight into
fdisk and other such newbie unfriendly applications.
I think most of the problems people have these days
are post installation. New users tend to not have experience
with command line interfaces and that can pose some problems
when they wish to do more complicated and specific tasks.
Sometimes kde and gnome etc can only take you so far....

Actually one of the problems a lot of people run into
is getting connected to the internet - problems setting up
dialup and isdn etc. Once people have got that far they can
gain access to vast quantities of online help and documentation.

Subject: [ILUG] Install Party in Dublin ?

Hello,

As a native French speaker, i browse French Linux sites every day and i
can't help noticing all the install parties going on all over the place
in France.

I'm on the ilug since one year and didn't see such a thing here. What
would you think about a social event where we could rent a place and get
people in to promote linux and help them install it ?

We could host some pages about requirements and rules, something
starting on a saturday maybe ...

Tell me what you think about it.
Steph
