Yes, I got that point, and if I didn't have these I/O errors, I'm sure that 
ogle would work just fine, but it doesn't. I've tried several times now to 
use ogle and xine to open hte DVD directly, without mounting, but it still 
fails due to these I/O errors.

This last error repeats continuously when I try to open the DVD with either 
ogle or xine. I've also seen these errors when trying to read dodgy audio 
CD's with my CD-RW before I installed the DVD drive, so I know the problem 
lies between the ide-scsi module and the devices. I'm just not sure how to 
narrow this down any further without pulling my machine apart any more than I 
have done.

I also know that my M/B has a serious problem with the SCSI modules as when 
ever I try to compile and run a new kernel, it allways hangs during the scsi 
init routine. Could this be related? I can only get my PC to boot with the 
default kernel installed by Progeny. Any attempts to build a new one fails. I 
know that the Debian Slink kernel also has a problem with this scsi 
interface, but potato is fine.

Thanks for all the info, but my problem is at a much lower level. Until I can 
get that sorted, I can not read DVD's :(
