[ILUG] how does a gcc version effect the kernel build ?

Based on hearsay.. ;)

Wasn't there something about, when upgrading to GCC 3.xx you might have
worries, but upgrading to 2.96/98 _should_ be fine... AFAIK anyway... Any
other bids on this?? ;)
