If it's software, you'll have the module 'md' loaded (unless you
compiled it straight into the kernel). You can also check the boot
log for messages from the md driver, which is the Linux software
RAID component.

If it's hardware, then it'll be a custom driver, and will also put 
messages into the bootlog.
