You will need the Alcatel firmware installed first; get it from their website

This will bring the modem to life; then you have to implement an appropriate 
PPP. Other sites for this modem are

but they may not be relevant if eircon use PPPoE - these are for pppoatm/pppoa 
- in which case Roaring Penguin might help.
