[ILUG] USB ADSL modem

And this is where I am confused. Why does it need a new firmware anyway?
Surely if it works with doze then the firmware is OK. And yes I have seen
that a new firmware is "required". But I just wanna know why. 
As I'm new to ADSL techie stuff, I don't wanna get a shock after flashing
the firmware -> it then doesn't work due to a bad flash or deletion of the
eircon settings [if applicable]. I think the problem is the driver support
for this USB jobby, but as its not a la maison, I'm afraid of making these
modifications. If it was at home I wouldn't give a bol*** and flash it to
bits ;-)

Eircon do use PPPoE by the way.

You will need the Alcatel firmware installed first; get it from their
website

This will bring the modem to life; then you have to implement an appropriate

PPP. Other sites for this modem are

but they may not be relevant if eircon use PPPoE - these are for
pppoatm/pppoa
