I've found amavis to be a bit too hairy for my liking; and I've
switched to sanitizer - see http://mailtools.anomy.net/sanitizer.html
Sanitizer isn't quite as comprehensive as amavis, but it's vastly
faster and I found it easy to configure it to DWIW.
Not answering your question, I know, but I just thought I'd mention
it.
