But was the question on-topic? One might suggest that a 6k whinge to 
the ilug list (as opposed to, say, the social list) is also inane.

Yup, and the people involved in deciding what goes into that disclaimer 
are frequently from departments that are resistant to the suggestion of 
using a one liner with a URL.

|  this?) spam.  I'd still be very annoyed even if I wasn't paying.

*Shrug* It takes me just under 5 minutes to download mail and news, 
that's fairly close to the minimal charge...

There's a vague sense of irony about the being rounded off with a 
non-McQ sig. I'm sure this is the point where you tell us that 
son-of-1036 applies to Usenet as opposed to mailing list traffic, but 
it amused me all the same.
