Just buy a cheap 10mbit ethernet card for about a tenner, and use that.
Dont know what you mean by saturate the system, the same amount of traffic
is going to be passing through whether its by ethernet or usb, and this is
just a guess, but I'd imagine ethernet would use less processing power
than usb. Either is going to be negligble unless you have a 486,
