[ILUG] ISDN dial on demand and firewall

Noobie question.

How is the dial on demand actually done?  I have a slackware running
iptables waiting for an adsl connection so it can function as the firewall
for our network, but if I could get dial on demand working for the existing
isdn I could implement the firewall before we had adsl up and running, so
fess up... how is the dial on demand done. I saw some stuff on the internet
that involved running pppd on boot with some timeouts, but if there is a
simpler way I would love to hear it.

its EXACTLY what you need my good man, and takes an whole 15 minutes from
booting off the 21MB CD for total configuration. The documentation is
excellent, all free. All told, its my favorite firewall package - and you
dont need to know squat about nix to do everything. 

Much as I love mandrake, I didn't think much of the SNF [this was an older
version, I have the new one but I need to prep a box for it] mostly because
it was a wee bit unresposive [the mini-web server that is] -> too much
graphics for a crap machine I suppose.

Can anyone suggest a good distro or a particular configuration to solve this
problem. I have a couple of PCs in the house and an ISDN line. Currently the
ISDN is connected to a W2K machine. I also have a laptop with 802.11b. What
I'd like to do is take an old machine (Pentium 133, 32MB, 2GB disk) and use
it as a gateway that will dial on demand via ISDN, provide DHCP to the other
machines nad provide wireless access for the laptop. Firewalling would be
nice too. I'd also like the Linux box to act as a forwarding email server so
that if I read email on the laptop I can still get at the same mail from my
desktop. The laptop and desktop are both running Windows. There is one last
machine that is running Linux and is being used as a J2EE server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
