[ILUG] YA-ADSL Question

[ILUG] YA-ADSL Question

Brian O'Donoghue Brian.ODonoghue at kbs.ie

Yeah the company got the enhanced non-capped product (which compares nicely
in price to the 3gb cap).

As I wanted one of the Alcatel modems so that Linux could replace the 2000
quid worth of site survey, firewall and router eircom are pushing with the
enhanced package.

Unfortunately that kind of leaves me in the lurch as regards configuration
of the connection.
The problem gets worse, as I'm off to the states for a week on Monday and
since I recieved the modem at about 5pm today after putting my account
manger through untold distress, it would be good if I could get this thing
configured before I go away to the states.

It all adds up, see if I get the adsl going properly using linux to do nat
and firewalling, the (1) Linux becomes an integral part of the office makeup
on what would otherwise be a purely M$ setup. (2) Once I begin to spread the
association of ultra-fast internet access with Linux doing some 'very'
useful job, it becomes exponentially easier to perhaps test out using Oracle
for Linux in place of M$ Tsql for our application, which would be of the
ususal cost and stability benefit to our clients etc.

It's all part of my master plan to take over the world I'll admit freely,
but, I still need to get this going as soon as I can, as I'd hate to have to
come in on Sunday, the day before I go away and probably late on Saturday to
get this connection going.

HELP!

i'd just try them all. also, is this for your own use or for work?
if it's your own i'd suggest calling eircom, explaining that you want
your questions answered or you'll switch to esat.

the whole concept of customer service is just beyond them, isn't it?

just as an aside could people asking adsl questions on this list please
consider making some noises of sympathy or something to us poor fsckers
who won't be seeing adsl before the teens...
