Agere are the microelectronics arm of Lucent that was sold off a year or two ago. Lucent still exists but as a manufacturer of high end networking gear.

< of it though and as far as I know it was some unknown brand ......
<
< Speaking of which I see lucent have changed their name to Agere systems

< Bryan,
< This, however may answer your question... I'll have a look around
< for some more specific technical data but:
<
< "Convenient Ports: 2 USB ports located in front for easy & quick connection
< with digital cameras & MP3 players and a front audio jack for headphones.
< Plus 2 additional USB ports, one serial port and one parallel port located
< in back to connect your other peripherals, such as a printer or scanner."
<
< Certain USB ports are only suitable for low power USB devices, eg.
< devices with their own power supply for instance (hense your camera working
< and the zip drive not). This is purely a guess on my part however, not
< having extensive knowledge/experience on the subject.

< (Note: as always these are merely my own opinions and I have no direct

< im gonna have to find out tonite ( with lspci -vv (PB)) .. it's up in my
< dads house
< .... I looked up the specs on the dell website but it was only described as a
< v92 ...
< end of info :-)
<
< Theres another strange thing about that model in that when I plug a usb zip
< drive into
< one of the usb ports in the front of the machine it isn't detected. However
< if I plug it
< in at the back it is fine. A digital camera plugged into the front of the
< machine works fine.
< ( this is all under windows XP )
<
< Under Linux ( Suse 8.0 )/Red Hat 7.3 nothing is detected if it is plugged
< into the
< front USB ports. Under redhat 7.3 devices will be sucessfully detected if
< plugged
< into the rear usb ports ( i deleted suse before i thought of trying this )
<
< Stranger and stranger.
