Spoken like a true mad scientist ;) I agree with experimenting thou for a
limited amount of hours

as regards Jame's comment:
>>I have never had any consistent luck with the ltmodem server on the dell
>>Lucent modem...
	>"Dell" Lucent modems ? I don't remember Dell making modems...

as regards Stephe's comment:
Dell-_branded_ lucent modems with those dodgy modem init strings/drivers so
the same modem could work Europe-wide

>>Yes, ltmodem never correctly set the IRQ, but when I fixed that, the
problem
>>became handshaking and sometimes carrier detection drop outs...
	> nothing a good sed script couldn't have fixed
explainez vous :) sed script running in the Eircom exchange or on the device
itself? ;)

>>Damn modem kept jumping IRQ's + I/o's every few reboots...so I bought an
>>external Diamond Supraexpress....problem solved ;)
	>reboots ? what are they ? Either way there are quite a number of
cheap pci
	>modems which will consistantly (or are purported to) work in Linux.
	>Win/Linmodems, if you can get them working will always be the
cheapest
	>solution though. Well that or carrier pigeon.
Carrier Pigeon please ;)

>>just my 2 cent...
>sure you can spare it ?
