[ILUG] Package dependencies

I feel the need to mention Mandrake.. people forget
that they started out releasing optimised versions for
different chipsets - as well as the generic i386 they did
specific i486, i586 and i686 iso's. All pre-compiled to 
your personal preference out of the box.. nice.

I think people whinge about package dependancies
and its often a buggy GUI frontend thats the problem
rather than the underlying package management itself.

 Bah. Poldek is a most excellent RPM distro that's compiled for i686. The
apache RPMs are split into 30 separate RPMs, one for each module, so you
don't have to install massive big groups of patches if you don't want to.

 They have application groups in clusters, so for instance, if they update
openssl, and you run "poldek --dist-upgrade", it'll install openssl & all
the RPMS that that depends on. Better yet, it'll use rsync to download the
differences between the old package list, and the new one!

 And yes, it does help to vent, it has to be said.
