Environments that don't suck?

what about other JRE's? We went through:
IBM
Sun
Blackdown
here for applet support, and each one of them was broken under linux for
something (buttons not appearing, in the wrong place, etc).

KDE + java does seem to work strangely.. konqueror uses kwin a lot to
make java do the right thing... probably not related?
