Phew! I thought I was the only one!
I've been bereft of proper 'net access for unknown reasons for a very
long time (only went through Win98 and PuTTY for mail). I finally sorted
it out just now, with a caching DNS server. And it's pigslow. Took ages
to do CVS updates to SourceForget. Once connected, things work OK,
though, and the caching DNS might improve things. Try setting up bind or
pdnsd.
