	Or you could just find one of a miriad of sites which offer smsing
for free. I think you can do it through icq/jabber as well.

That's how it is at the moment alright, but the networks are looking at
ways of doing location based charging - i.e. you pay more if you're
outside your normal area (that may be other countries, or even just
different areas within a country).
