[ILUG] KWord and AbiWord silliness

[ILUG] KWord and AbiWord silliness

KWord stinks. Really, it does. I wrote a simple document, with one image
in it (png). When trying to print to Postscript, the resulting file has
no image. The manual is unfortunately incomplete.

What's worse is that I can't import the .kwd file back into KWord. This
is annoying. This definitely seems like a bug (then again, I'm running
Debian unstable ;).

AbiWord is not much good, either. It crashes when I try to import
anything that isn't .abw - even a plain textfile. When inserting an
image, it crashes the first time I press space. Not much good to me,
either. Still latest thing from apt.

So, are there any word processing programs that aren't too much of a
download that actually work? My needs are:
-Import any text
-Import PNG or JPEG images
-Print to Postscript or PDF *and keep images intact*

Is OpenOffice any good? If so, is it in Debian, and what name?

(Google doesn't really help me figure out what works and what doesn't in
these different programs :/)
