Hi,
I'm evaluating Java IDEs for Linux (RH 7.2) for use on courses here in AIT.
I've successfully downloaded and I'm now installing Borland's JBuilder. But I'm
having problems installing Forte for Java.
I'm using two approaches:
i) install from the Linux Format CD (June 2001):
this seems to install, but fails to actually execute - it starts a
process, but nothing happens.
ii) downloading the combined j2sdk and forte install file from java.sun.com,
but this is a 65MB file and the download fails before it can finish
(last time after downloading 40MB).
Any suggestions? Specifically, is there something I need to do to get
the Linux Format Forte installtion working? Here's what I do:
Install j2sdk
Set JAVA_PATH and export it (manually and within .bash_profile)
Install Forte for Java
runide
Here's what hapens
[cmcclean at suntzu cmcclean]$ runide
Using /home/cmcclean/forte4j_user as user directory...
and then nothing else (even after 1 hour).
(It actually runs a number of processes, such as
cmcclean 21701 0.0 0.7 2220 952 pts/2 S 13:18 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/local/bin/runide

Alternatively, can anyone point me to a download site for Forte for Java
(for Linux) other than java.sun.com?
Thanks in advance,
Cormac.
