The short answer is no - a disk drive is a random access device, a tape
drive is NOT (although some tape formats use directories, you still cannot
get from A to D without passing B & C, even if it is at quite a speed.)
I've seen mention of software in the past that allowed pseudo random access
to a tape drive - the software would basically buffer what it read from the
drive so after using it for a while, you could access things fairly quickly
- at least, that was the theory.
Frankly, Conor, I think the only way you're going to read that tape is by
getting a copy of the original software from somewhere - google is your
friend.
