[ILUG] Accounting programs under linux, and word compatibility...

Hi all,

Well post outlook virus, my uncle has decided that windows is shite -> his words not mine [although I smiled and agreed] he has decided to listen to reason and mix his environment. However, I am not convinced about desktop linux [although its all I personally use]

Anyway with that out of the way, will he still be able to use his excel formulae under linux and what applications are we looking at. Purchasing of products is no issue for either of us as long as we are 100% sure it'll work aswell as excel.

And word for the secretaries, e-mail is no issue as I am setting up a proper system for them. But when people send in files in wordxxx format, will it be understood with linux?

Personally I use neither word nor excel in my life so I have no experience of these.

Recomendations anyone?
CW
