[ILUG] RPC Timeouts and other errors during NFS startup

[ILUG] RPC Timeouts and other errors during NFS startup

Hi All,

I am having some fun with my MDK 8.1 server at home.
Whenever I try starting up the nfs server using 'service start nfs', I get
RPC timeout errors for both mountd and nfsd.
I have a fully qualified DNS service running, so I don't think it's down to
name resolution issues.
I did search the ILUG archives, but didn't see anything which rang any
bells.
This works on one clean MDK8.1 install I did yesterday, but my server, which
has had one or two updates added just won't start.
Here's the command output:

[root@******** root]# service nfs start
Starting NFS services: [ OK ]
Starting NFS mountd: Cannot register service: RPC: Timed out
                                                           [FAILED]
Starting NFS daemon: nfssvc: Input/output error
                                                           [FAILED]

[root@******** root]# rpcinfo -p
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error - Connection
timed out

[root@******** root]# service portmap status
portmap (pid 15330) is running...

Any help much appreciated,
	David.
