This is not any help, but I had been using Mandrake 8.0 at work, and
switched to Red Hat 7.2 after a number of months, partly due to
frustration with NFS on Mandrake. It regularly failed to start for
me, and I couldn't figure out why. (I also was fed up with the
dodgy fonts in Star Office on Mdk8. Now everything works fine on
RH7.2.)
