Even better - run a different windowmanager with no special concept of a
desktop, pick a filemanager that suits you, and use the programs from
KDE and Gnome that you want to use. Keep gnomecc and kcontrol around for
setting up features in each system, though.
I use XFCE and its windowmanager; XFTree is OK for simple graphical
browsing, but Konqueror worka well after setting it to open files on
doubleclick, and installing Ark for archive file access. Rox is another,
lighter filemanager with similar features. Opera is the only browser I
can stomach anymore ;
Along with that, I use the Gnomne recorder, plus various programs that
are or will be part of Gnome itself. Plus Open Office, of course.
