By my reading, not what it's intended to :-) I just mailed Kevin about it -
doubtless he'll reply with a correction, or alternatively point out exactly
why I'm a gobshite. auth's intention was to run ssh-agent iff it hadn't been
run already and add keys. However, auth didn't source .ssh-env when it
didn't run ssh-agent so I'm not sure it would do what one wants. I'm
currently looking at this and I have ssh-agent running from my .xsession but
trying to get a nice neat situation going is a little messy i.e. if a user
logs in via ?dm, I want him to run ssh-agent from .xsession, unless
ssh-agent is already running, in which case I want his session to pick up
the existing values. If he logs in via ssh from another box, then I want him
to start ssh-agent from his shell start script, unless it's already running,
in which case I want him to pick up the values from that. That is proving a
little tricky.
