That was the issue - different protocol specification on both boxes. Odd,
because they should both have been as installed. As Kevin pointed out, the
dsa and rsa keys would have helped too. Pro tem, being under pressure to
make this work, I've gone with protocol ver. 1 as my answer. I'll have to
have a read and see why I need to use ver. 2. For those in a similar
position, sshd -d is quite useful but when you use it with ssh -v it gets
even better :-) In fact if I'd used ssh -v first I probably wouldn't have
needed sshd -d :-(
