ah loopback mounting .. (not loop device), Solaris does this as so:
/temp/limerick14 on /export/temp read/write on Fri Mar 22 17:22:08 2002
where everything in /export/temp appears in /temp/limerick14,
can't remember if Linux does it or not .. I'm hearing union mounts but I
think these are slightly different .. but may encompass what you want ..
