Thanks to all who replied to this. I would have responded over the weekend,
but Eircom have screwed up a phone transfer, giving me service for two weeks
then cutting me off, leaving my old address connected... grrr!! No internet.
Anyway, I see that basically all I need to do is make DNS settings point to
the same machine. Please don't lambast my lack of knowledge of DNS, and my
unsuitability for this task (I am a software designer, the closest I have
gotten to this is setting up test servers on private LANs - I always fudged
DNS and it "just worked"). The colo machine is for the mutual pleasure of a
likeminded group of friends to host our websites, keep shell accounts and
generally experiment on, so it's not exactly mission critical, but it would
be nice to get it working the way I want.
Now, can I set up a DNS server on my machine that takes requests for
*.nologic.org and handles * by redirecting to itself? Or will I have to get
my ISP (yes, it's hosting365) to handle this? The way I see it my machine
should be capable of handling requests for the nologic.org domain and any
subdomains...
I'll have a bash at this this evening, now that I've had a chance to read
the mails to this list. Any web addresses for tutorials would be nice,
though of course I will be googling when I get a chance today...
Thanks again,
Ciaran.
