chmod 777 /dev/sg*
chmod 777 /dev/sr*
chmod 777 /dev/scd*
(assuming this is your home machine, it won't cause any major problems).
correct solution:
addgroup cdwriter
chgrp cdwriter /dev/sg*
add yourself to the cdwriter and cdrom groups
hopefully that should cover all the possible permissions problems.
(if cdrecord -scanbus
cdrecord -inq dev=0,0,0
cdparanoia -vsQ
don't complain, it should be okay in xcdroast).
