[ILUG] external microcom ISDN & fix IP

[ILUG] external microcom ISDN & fix IP

Hello!

Did anybody configured a box with a setup like $SUBJECT?
I had one box which need to be proxy. As they needed a cheap
proxy solution which the local admin can administrate, I chose
Smoothwall. But when I got to the administration menu I configured
the internal ethernet as GREEN if, and chose that RED is modem/ISDN.
The ISDN menu just knew about internal cards. Right. As it's an
external TA, I thought that's easy to configure it as an external modem.
So I went to the webadmin and setup ppp. The only thing which I cannot
do is to configure to use fix IP. Eventually I wanted to install
debian but without the install cds it's not so easy :-) Couldn't I
assig a fix IP to smoothwall's config if I use ISDN or dialup?
And do I have to configure something specially because it's an
external ISDN adapter and not an ordinary modem? I read that I have to
use \d in the chat script.
Bye,
Ago
