Ostensibly I would have to agree.
Either Gentoo or Slackware. Slackware is really utilitarian, but well supported out of the box (for whatever mine opinion counts for), Gentoo though is if you have the patience to download and compile everything... I dunno, lots of fun.
For the purposes of a workstation I would if I were let, convert everyone to the church of bob, however for anyone who is looking at downloading a Slackware ISO, I would encourage said person to give some thought/consideration to dloading a Gentoo install... if even just to give it a whirl.
