By well supported I mean for example getting a nice slack .tgz for your tdfx card from the slack ftp site I don't know about the current status of Debian, but apt-get always seemed too complex in comparison to simply getting a slack package 'then again you say tomato I say tomato' hehe ... plus slack is not only free of the kind of unnecessary startup bloat Mandrake suffers from like 'aurora', it seems reasonably up to date with out sacrificing too much to user friendly bloat.
