[ILUG] btrieve, TAS Books 3, SAMBA 2.2.1a

[ILUG] btrieve, TAS Books 3, SAMBA 2.2.1a

We run TAS Books 3 on 3 Win98 pcs with the shared btrieve database on a
RH7.0 server. With an increasing frequency of database inconsistencies,
btrieve errors etc, we decided to upgrade to a 'real' server.

The upgrade includes Mandrake 8.0 pro-suite with Samba 2.2.1a.

Our first attempt to use TAS Books 3 failed. We decided to try to enter
orders on three different pc's and brought the accounts package down around
our ears. Multiple Btrieve errors etc.

However, our shared M$ Acce$$ database backend works fine. So too with the
M$ Outlook. Problems only with the Btrieve end of TAS books 3.

Google does show up some stuff, but mostly questions and few answers. I see
mention where someone said he'd change 'blocking locks = true' to false.
However, I'm a newbie, and since this guy never posted the outcome of his
efforts, I'm loath to mess around.

TAS / SAGE say they haven't tested TAS Books 3 on a Linux server, only on NT
etc.

So today we're back to our old box. We don't want to install Winblows on the
server just because of the accounts package.

Help desperately needed on this one!

Thanks
