so? the added structure has a cost sure, but I don't see that as a problem.
the benefits are worth it. and those hundreds if not thousands of files
are mostly present already on a linux box. this scheme adds more directories
to structure the thing better. and of course you need a bunch of symlinks
for compatibility. but those might disappear over time.
are you short of inodes or something?
