Q:

Are you on a 100MB Full duplex network, and the NIC isn't quite getting that
fact? Ie. it's renegotiating the speed over and over again??

I'd doubt it, but hey, who knows??

Bad cable? Does ifconfig eth0 show any huge number of transmission errors?
